Getting There Is Half the Fun references changing modes of travel and how they affect and disorientate our experience of travel and time, removing valuable, tangible, interactions that used to accompany experiences of travel. This suite of fifteen images is painted directly upon vintage engravings, mostly taken from John Pinkerton's translations of the writings of an assortment of travellers in Voyages and Travels in All Parts of the World (Eighth Volume), printed in London. This book was illustrated by a variety of (then contemporary) artists, most of whom were little known, and functioned merely as documentarians and illustrators.
This exhibition as a whole will dwell upon an in-depth inquiry into art practices that have emerged over the years experimenting with the genre of landscape, and how landscape shapes our perceptions, memories, and social order. The show will be accompanied by presentations, collaborative projects, workshops and other events.
